CrossFit is a high-intensity training program that helps people of all sizes and shapes build strength and conditioning. In CrossFit people usually work out in groups and follow a WOD (workout of the day). CrossFit gyms are radically different from commercial gyms as they don’t have any ellipticals, treadmills or weight training machines. People tend to learn new skill sets that are never taught in conventional gyms. According to CrossFit’s official website, “CrossFit contends that a person is as fit as they are proficient in each of ten general physical skills: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy.”The main objective of CrossFit is the overall development of the individual while bodybuilding focuses more on muscle development.
Why CrossFit Is Better Than BodyBuilding
CrossFitters are working against the clock. Their goal is usually for either a high number of reps in an extended time frame or to complete a set number of reps faster than their competitors. Reps are usually done with a single-time tempo, one count up and one count down. It is a great way to improve your stamina and cardiovascular endurance. Getting your heart rate up in between the workout trains your body to move oxygen and blood to your muscles more efficiently. This helps your muscles use that fuel more economically as well, and ultimately you move with more ease.
Strength And Conditioning
CrossFit uses everything from Olympic weightlifting to high-intensity interval training to improve your fitness level . The main focus is on the performance. The Olympic weight lifting improves the explosive strength and power in the body which is sometimes lacking in bodybuilding. In Bodybuilding, you focus on a single muscle group at a time while in CrossFit a variety of muscles are working simultaneously. In CrossFit, you tend to improve your strength while learning new movements every day.
A bodybuilder will focus on strength and high rep work (to pump up muscles) whereas a CrossFitter focuses more on speed, high reps, and endurance. Whilst both have great looking physiques… bodybuilders are bigger, whereas CrossFitters are much fitter!
Most of the Crossfit Workouts are done in groups and you have to work with each other while performing certain exercises. This is not something you get to see in conventional gyms. There’s a sense of togetherness when multiple people are working together as a team towards the same goal. Each individual does the same set of exercises and work towards a single goal. You will continuously meet new people and make new friends throughout your journey.
Which Is Better For You?
See it totally depends on you what your goals are, what you want to achieve. You can’t compare apples with oranges. They serve totally different purpose and you need to choose the one which matches your goals. If your purpose is to gain some muscle mass and get bulky then go for bodybuilding but if you want to improve your overall fitness while improving your strength, stamina, and endurance then start doing Crossfit.
